Oct. 2026: Winter Storage for MV Agusta – Supermotors!
Five Tips for Safe Winter Storage!
1) Always start by washing it; if your motorcycle isn’t too dirty, fill a spray bottle with a good wax shampoo (e.g., Sonax) and spray the entire motorcycle, then rinse it off with a low-pressure pressure washer and lukewarm water. Of course, avoid spraying directly onto wheel hubs and electrical components. For heavily soiled bikes, I usually start by using Motul Motowash, a very good cleaner for the entire motorcycle that’s also biodegradable. Always start the engine and let it warm up after washing, and if the weather is nice and dry, why not take it for one last ride…
2) Avoid draining the battery; it’s best to remove it. It’s always safest to charge and store the battery separately from the vehicle. If this is “cumbersome” (e.g., MV’s three-cylinder models…), disconnect the main fuse so that all electrical power is turned off. If the battery is disconnected, you don’t need to trickle-charge it more than about once a month; if you have a lithium battery, it usually doesn’t need to be charged at all!
3) Always store your MV in a dry and secure location; that is, never in a place with humidity higher than 50%. By “secure,” I mean both protected from unauthorized access and safe from pests. The temperature isn’t that critical, but it should ideally be at least 10 °C. NOTE! Never store your motorcycle under a canopy outdoors; unfortunately, I’ve seen too many motorcycles that have simply been ruined by corrosion!
4) Time for maintenance: If it’s time for a service, it’s a good idea to take care of it now or perhaps schedule an appointment so your motorcycle is ready to ride by spring. If you have an annual service, perform or schedule it now.
5) Remember to ALWAYS fill up with 98 octane gas; it contains at least a certain percentage of ethanol. In other words, try to avoid ethanol, which isn’t very suitable for fuel lines…
