Aug 2026: Maintenance Tips for MV Agusta – Supermotors!
After hundreds of service jobs and many miles of our own riding on the modern MV Agusta F3/F4 and Brutale models, we’ve gained a wealth of valuable experience over the years; here are the most important points:
• Change the oil and filter about every two years; it’s not just mileage that matters, but also time and storage conditions. Always use, for example, Motul 300V or another high-quality oil.
• The oil level should be no higher than the marks on the four-cylinder models; that is, the upper mark in the dipstick window does not apply. On three-cylinder models, measure with the oil plug fully screwed in, and the level should be slightly below the maximum mark. NOTE! Always check the level after you’ve started and stopped the engine—that is, once the filter is filled.
• Coolant should be filled to no more than the minimum mark; never use water/glycol alone—always use, for example, Motul Motocool or another high-quality coolant. Replace it every 3 years.
• For optimal performance and safety, also replace the brake and clutch fluid every 3 years. Here, too, quality is crucial—we recommend using Motul Dot 5.1!
• Charge the battery every 3–4 weeks during periods when you are not driving regularly; avoid leaving the battery charger plugged in continuously—it is much better and safer to disconnect the battery completely instead. If the battery becomes completely discharged, it is almost always impossible to recharge it. Replace the battery at least every 5 years, preferably with the original Yuasa AGM type. NOTE! Never use a battery booster to charge or start the bike—it can damage the ECU!
• Never ride with a chain that is too loose; measure from the measuring edge to the center of the chain—refer to the chain guard dimensions for your specific model. NOTE! Always adjust the chain with your MV on the rear stand and with no load.
• Make it a habit to regularly check front and rear tire pressure; it should be 2.3 kg on all F3/F4 and Brutale/Dragster models. Later models require higher pressure; for example, the Turismo requires 2.6 kg.
• If you have ridden more than 600 mil; check the condition of the bearings in the rear hub in particular by disassembling the hub and wheel axle. NOTE! Applies to all MV models up through the 2009 model year. Also check the front wheel bearings regularly, preferably by removing the wheel from the fork legs.
• Never use a high-pressure washer on the front or rear wheel bearings!
• Always fill up with at least 98 octane; some models perform very poorly on 95 octane...
